Karl´s Wächter-Medical children book

Collaborating with the medical technology manufacturer -Miethke from Potsdam (Germany), the project is aim to provide services to children with hydrocephalus, their parents and friends design a children book. Based on a given story, we illustrated a children's book in a way that makes the content accessible to young readers, simplifying complex concepts for easy understanding.

Challenge

Simplifying Complex Medical Concepts for Children

The challenge was transforming lengthy and difficult medical knowledge into engaging visuals that 6 to 12-year-olds could easily understand. The goal was to simplify complex concepts about hydrocephalus into a child-friendly format, using illustrations and storytelling to make the subject approachable and accessible.

Solution

Making Story Fun and Accessible for Kids

I used simple shapes and bright colors to create a fun, game-like atmosphere. Each page is guided by a dominant color to shape emotions and immerse children in the story, making complex medical concepts easy to understand and enjoyable to read.

Visualizing Medical Knowledge with Playful Illustration

I use an abstract and fun way to draw hydrocephalus, with comic-style to explain medical knowledge, so that children can enjoy the picture book in a more lively way!

Lively and Engaging Vision

I chose to use simple shapes with vivid colors as the style of this book. Since the content of the story conveys too much knowledge, and the target group is children, I hope that the art style can be more like a game, making the book more lively and interesting, and creating a more special picture book style.

Let the colors guide the story

Each page of illustrations has a different main color, I try to let colors guide the emotions and feelings of the story, which also guide the reader's mood and experience of reading, absorbing the content of the book more immersively.
